¿WHAT IS GEZKI?

The Institute of Cooperative Law and Social Economy is a University Institute of the UPV/EHU (University of the Basque Country) formed of researchers who work in different disciplines. Its main objective is to expand the knowledge and promote the dissemination of social economy organisations and the cooperative movement in the Basque Country. GEZKI’s activity is focused on four main areas: research, training, dissemination and intercooperation.

The Institute was created in 1986 through a collaboration agreement between the Faculty of Law and the Department of Labour, Health and Social Security of the Basque Government. Later, on October 19, 1999, the Department of Education, Universities and Research of the Basque Government decided, by Decree 355/1999, to formally and definitively set up GEZKI.

The group that has been working in GEZKI ever since is conformed by professors of the University of the Basque Country (UPV/EHU), outside colaborators and hired researchers. Apart from this every year our group is integrated by incoming last year Master / degree students for an intership

The Institute’s headquarters are based in the Carlos Santamaria Centre, on the floor dedicated to research groups (plaza Elhuyar, 2, San Sebastian 20018).
